2103 was a busy year for my Chrisparente.com site. According to WordPress JetPack statistics, as of this morning it has received 63,469 views. The site has also achieved a global Alexa ranking of 265,477, and a U.S. ranking of 65,990.  Each year since 2008 my traffic has grown, and I send a big thank you to every one of my visitors.

Here’s a look at what those visitors found most interesting by category.

Work — my story Privacy Thoughts in the NSA Age was the most popular story, driven no doubt by media coverage of the Snowden revelations and perhaps a video interview in the piece featuring Rachel Maddow and Eric Schmidt. The silver medal goes to Honest SEO is Effective SEO, highlighting what I believe are the benefits of Google algorithm changes for quality content marketing. Rounding out the list is What Exactly Does Content Marketing Mean, which discusses  adopting the mindset of a publisher to achieve specific business outcomes.

WineThe Demographics of U.S. Wine Consumption took the top spot, highlighting how wine sales in this country are at an all time high. However, data shows that Millennials lag in wine purchases, raising doubts about future consumption levels. Readers also liked my interview with the head of digital ventures for the Washington Post talking about the Post getting into the wine business in Washington Post Wine Interview. Third place went to my review of single vineyard Ravenswood Zinfandels, sent to us directly courtesy of my wife’s club membership.

Wheels – My story Unlocking the Secret Menu Options of the BMW E39 M5 was the most popular piece. It’s popularity continues to be driven by the traffic generated by a mention and link from the popular Gawker network site Lifehacker.com and a tweet from  noted Finnish security expert Mikko Hipponen to his 60,000+ Twitter followers. Second place goes to the  BMW Quality Crisis post, which currently ranks #2 on Google when searching on that topic. The bronze medal goes to my story Wisdom of the Crowd Saves BMW SULEV Owner, which sparked many comments and helped some owners save thousands of dollars on repairs to their super low emission BMW fuel tanks.

Best wishes to you for a Merry New Year and a successful 2014!
