In my last blog post, I made mention of my quest for a good value, good tasting $20 Bordeaux. It has not been an easy quest. But I’m excited to say I’ve made two discoveries worth sharing.

Here are links for more information:

Chateau Beaumont 2005 – .pdf from the vine maker with lots of detail, including a different percentage of grapes than what is listed on the bottle by importer

Chateau La Fleur Morange 2009 Mathilde – a thorough review of the 2008 vintage from British wine merchant Nick Stephens

One Response to “Good Value Bordeaux — Finally”

  1. Hi Chris

Many thanks for highlighting the Mathilde de La Fleur Morange as a good value Bordeaux and for linking to my blog post. Your blog is interesting reading – I am pleased to have found you!

La Fleur Morange is attracting a lot of attention – in my opinion rightly so.

With the Asian influence on Cru Classe Bordeaux taking prices through the roof it is hard to locate a good source of claret with a decent price/quality ratio. I run 2 sites in the UK – one deals with Cru Classe and the other deals in every day drinking Bordeaux. If you are trying to source good value wines I’d recommend looking at the Second Wines of some of the Cru Classes or wines from Bordeaux satellite AOCs (eg Cotes de Castillon, Fronsac etc). These have some superb wines on offer and were much sought after in the past – they are some what eclipsed by their big brothers!

    Cheers!

    Nick
